Jeddah Historic District

Jeddah Historic District, once a small fishing village on the
Red Sea coast, has a rich history  and cultural heritage.
It flourished as a vital trading hub on the ancient Silk Road and became a global gateway for pilgrims from all over the world.

Jeddah Historic District, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to many diverse markets and more than 600 historic buildings with distinctive architecture that reflects the resourcefulness and adaptation of its people to their environment.

Under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, the Jeddah Historic District program leads the efforts in the regeneration of the historical center of Jeddah (Al Balad). Its aim is to establish it as a hub of culture and the arts, and an international heritage destination.
